World Literature Platform
In Fall 2013, I took a practicum on teaching literature, which was offered by Purdue's Department of English. I found the practicum meetings with other instructors tremendously helpful and realized that no similar peer-oriented support network existed for graduate students teaching classes in World Literature at Purdue. In Fall 2014, I took the initiative to organize a peer-mentoring group for teaching World Literature. Until I left Purdue in May 2017, we met on a bi-weekly basis to discuss pedagogical texts, share our teaching experience, and help each other solve challenges in the classroom as they arise during the semester. Challenges that regularly come up are how to motivate students, manage excessive student absences, best grade exams and essays, and teach writing about World Literature. Together, we have developed an online platform to display student projects and share our teaching materials. This platform now also serves as an archive to preserve materials for future instructors.
